I love pumpkin carving, but I think it is so challenging. The pumpkin I'm carving often refuses to cooperate, so I end up carving an image into it that is only a fragment of the image I was attempting to carve. It's still fun though, despite being mildly frustrating! If pumpkin carving is your sorta thing, then you should check out the underwater pumpkin carving contest in Key Largo!
The annual underwater pumpkin carving contest at Amoray Dive Resort in Key Largo pays tribute to Halloween in true Florida Keys style. Jack-o-lanterns are carved underwater, and they sure do spook the fish!
If you're a scuba diver and want to participate in the contest, then, on October 31, 2021, you should get yourself to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and find the Amoray Diver crew. It costs $90 per person for the dive. The cost includes a two-tank dive trip, a cleaned pumpkin ready for carving, tanks, and weights- however, you'll have to bring your own carving utensils and creativity! Check in with Amoray Dive Center (mile marker 104.2) at 12:30 PM, and then you'll be all set to compete!
This year's theme is "That's A-Moray Eel!" Prizes will be awarded to the top three carved pumpkins (judged by the dive crew).
