For many, pirates and treasure hunting are just things of fantasy. In Key West, they're a part of history! If you're looking to learn more about the treasures of the Keys, then you join in as Mel Fisher Days commemorates 400 years of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha.
First things first: who is Mel Fisher? Mel Fisher was "a dreamer, a visionary, a legend and most importantly, the World's Greatest Treasure Hunter." Mel Fisher Days seeks to carry on Mel Fisher's mission, sharing the priceless historical and cultural heritage that found treasures represent. They actively search for and recover the remaining lost treasures of the Atocha and the Santa Margarita while also searching for other yet to be discovered shipwrecks.
At the 400th Commemoration of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha, you'll be able to meet the Fisher family and some of their favorite authors of books that detail topics such as shipwreck exploration.
Some events are ticketed, while others are free. All are open to the public, and all profits go to Keys charities! There will be film screenings, live auctions, silent auctions, a speakers symposium, a banquet dinner, and much more!
